The recent refurbishment of the world’s most famous physics laboratory at the Department of Physics for the University of Cambridge was designed to create a showcase for the quality and standard for lecture theatres throughout the University.
With an extensive range of cutting edge audio visual equipment at the heart of the delivery, the project went through a competitive tender process, following which Audio Visual Material’s customer Snelling Business Systems was awarded the contract for design, supply, installation, and managed service for all AV within the department's refurbishment.
Part of the aim of the project was to create a showcase for lectures theatres throughout the university and it is the work which Snelling Business Systems has recently undertaken that has helped to deliver this goal.
Integral to the project were two lecture theatres - a larger theatre seating 400 and a smaller theatre for 200 guests.
As part of the delivery of the visual requirements for the large theatre, Audio Visual Material provided two huge screens via their customer.
The smallest theatre was equipped with a custom Flatmax fixed frame screen sized 900cm x 188cm to support 3no. WUXGA 1-Chip DLP projectors.
Within the large flagship theatre, a stunning custom Flatmax curved frame screen was integrated into the fabric of the building, and for maximum impact, 3no. WUXGA 3-Chip DLP projectors were installed.
This specially commissioned curved panoramic screen was a particular challenge as the curve was more than 13 metres. This is the only such screen installed in the UK.
As part of the service to support Snelling on this project, Audio Visual Material travelled to the supplier in Italy and oversaw the production, and then assisted with the site survey.
